Elizabethtown College is spreading holiday cheer to children in the community through the Angel Tree Project, an annual holiday tradition sponsored by the Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) and Student Senate. The project gives back to children in the Elizabethtown area community by providing them with gifts donated by students, faculty, and staff.
This year, CCCE and Student Senate were able to provide gifts to 60 local children.
Members of Etown Student Senate staffed tables in the Baugher Student Center (BSC) to promote the project and collect donations that provided sponsored children with gifts for this holiday season. Students then volunteered to wrap gifts after all donations were collected and later distributed them to participating services, such as Elizabethtown Community Housing & Outreach Services (ECHOS) and Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13).
Student Senate representative, Kylie Evoy ’24, reflected on the everlasting generosity of the Etown community.
“Sponsorship programs like Angel Tree perfectly exemplify the College’s ‘Educate for Service’ motto,” said Evoy. “This is my second year taking part in gift wrapping for the project, and it’s heartening to see an increase in donations with each passing year.”
Maddi Holmberg ’24, Student Senate Class of 2024 President, spoke to the importance of the project.
“I think it’s wonderful that Etown students and employees are so eager to give back to children in need, especially during the holiday season,” said Holmberg. “To us, this may just be a simple act of kindness, but to a child, this makes their holiday season one to remember.”
