Elizabethtown College will host its annual Day of Service on Friday, March 27, as students, faculty, staff, and alumni will gather in Thompson Gymnasium to support worldwide humanitarian aid efforts. The event, organized by the Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE), will utilize volunteers to assemble more than 45,000 rice and bean meal kits and will help to address food insecurity. Register to participate.
“As a campus committed to addressing food insecurity through initiatives like our Blue Jay Food Pantry, we understand that reliable access to food is foundational to an individual’s physical, emotional, and overall well-being,” Brianna Titi, Elizabethtown College CCCE Program Manager, said. “Partnering with Unto allows our campus community to serve alongside an organization that is actively removing barriers to food access on a global scale.”
Unto, a humanitarian organization based in Mount Joy, Pa., provides critical necessities such as food, clean water, agriculture, blankets, clothing, hygiene products, and temporary shelter to individuals in need. For over 30 years, Unto has been serving more than 75 countries around the world.
This year’s Day of Service event is expected to include more than 300 volunteers. Participants can sign up individually or in groups for various time slots available throughout the day.
This event is made possible through the financial contributions and support of the Center for Global Understanding and Peacebuilding (CGUP), Members 1st Federal Credit Union, and the Social Work Department.
Day of Service provides a key opportunity for Etown’s community to build teamwork, serve others, and reinforce the College’s Educate for Service motto.
“Educate for Service is not just Elizabethtown College’s motto — it is how we live out our responsibility to care for and show up for our communities locally, nationally, and, in this case, internationally,” Titi said.
The CCCE is part of a collective of programs belonging to Etown’s Institute for Engagement, Mission, and Impact. Through collaborative learning, meaningful dialogue, and community-driven action, the Institute fosters a campus culture centered on inclusion, service, and advocacy. Discover more.
