Computer Science majors Kaiden Miller ’28 and Alex Roop ’26 presented their respective research at the 2026 National Council for Undergraduate Research Conference (NCURC) in Richmond, Va., from April 13 to 15.

Miller displayed the technical elements and research methods used to develop an AI tutoring assistant, Jaybot, which he created in the summer of 2025 as part of Etown’s Summer Creative Arts and Research Program (SCARP).

“At the conference, I had the opportunity to learn about some unique projects and other resources to come up with some creative ways to improve this project,” Miller said. “This experience will help me continue to connect with more professionals and peers in the field of computing as I continue to grow in the industry.”

Roop displayed a poster presentation outlining the technical design and creation process of his 2025 SCARP project, which utilizes AI technology and a computer vision model to assist senior citizens in wellness activities. The project incorporates real-time feedback to avoid injury, answer questions, and track completion of exercises.

“This conference showed me how cross-disciplinary conversations can strengthen and improve our workflow and outlook on projects,” Roop said. “I had the chance to connect with people outside my field, gaining fresh perspectives that would make my project more accessible, while also being inspired by the projects and passions shared by other undergraduate researchers.”

The NCURC is an annual academic conference open to undergraduate students from all disciplines, providing a forum for researchers and students to network and discuss significant innovations in their respective fields.

2026 International Conference on Software Engineering – April 14 to 17

Computer Science major Aaron Frist ’27 attended the 2026 International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from April 14 to 17.

Frist presented a poster display that outlined the technical design and results of his AI senior wellness system that he created with Roop as part of their SCARP 2025 project. He presented alongside undergraduate students from around the world, giving him the unique opportunity to discuss technical trends and innovations with top researchers and educators in the field.

“I had an amazing time presenting research at such a large-scale event, as well as networking to create international connections with top students and experts,” Frist said. “It was an event that has greatly spurred my interest in the field and has gotten me excited to continue research and studies in software engineering.”

The ICSE is an annual technical conference that aims to facilitate discussions among researchers and educators about the latest advancements in the field of software engineering.
