The group visited the plant’s facilities and learned about engineering mechanisms commonly used in the food manufacturing industry. The group also had the opportunity to discuss recent engineering innovations with industry professionals.
“I appreciated the opportunity to tour Wolfgang Confectioners because it gave me insight into how large-scale manufacturing environments operate,” Mechanical Engineering major Habiba Abouelnagah ’28 said. “It was interesting to see how consistency, efficiency, and quality are maintained throughout production. As someone interested in going into manufacturing, this experience gave me a better understanding of how engineering supports large-scale production.”
The trip was organized by Etown Engineering Club student leaders Keagan Kinney ’26 and Justin Cedeno ’26, with assistance from club advisor and Associate Professor of Engineering, Dr. Jean Batista Abreu.
“The visit to Wolfgang Confectioners provided Etown Engineering students an opportunity to learn more about the professional industry and how engineering can be applied to any realm of life, including the food we consume,” Cedeno said.
Wolfgang Confectioners is a family-owned confectionery manufacturing company that has operated in York, Pa., for over a century.
