Elizabethtown College will host a performance of “Bailando con Maria” by the Philadelphia Ballet II on Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. The 45-minute performance is family-friendly, free, and open to the public.

“Knowing that dance is a key part of Central Pennsylvania culture, we are delighted to host the Philadelphia Ballet and its mission of outreach to regional communities,” Elizabethtown College Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, Kevin Shorner-Johnson said. “This program offers an embrace of dance and Hispanic/Latino culture through the medium of Children’s Spanish stories.”

The performance follows the story of a young dancer living in Mexico named Maria who wants to carve her own path in life. Her parents dream of her becoming a doctor or a soccer player, but dance is the only passion that lives in Maria’s heart. Maria’s dreams take her across stages in Latin America where she performs cultural dances from Mexican folk dance, flamenco, tango, salsa, and more.

The community-centered event will feature food trucks, while local organizations such as E-dance Center, Latino Hispanic American Community Center, La Voz Latina Central, and Spanish American Civic Association for Equality will be engaging with attendees through information tables.
