Elizabethtown College’s Tempest Theatre will present “Melancholy Play,” written by Sarah Ruhl, for its spring mainstage production. The show will run for two weekends in March and will be performed on Friday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m., March 16 and 17 at 3 p.m., as well as Thursday, March 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 23 at 3 p.m.

“Despite the play’s title, ‘Melancholy’ is anything but,” Student Director Emily “Em” Clark said. “It is a charming, funny show that will keep you on the edge of your seat!”

A romantic comedy accompanied by live music, “Melancholy Play” tells the story of a bank teller named Tilly, whose sadness is a siren song to all who witness it, and every stranger she meets falls in love with her. One day, Tilly becomes happy and everyone around her sees it as a tragedy and it is up to her to save them from the fallout.

Tickets, which are $8 for students and alumni and $10 for general admission, are available for purchase at the door or online. Please be advised, that if you have an allergy to tree nuts or peanuts there will be real tree nuts used on stage during the production.
