The first season of the Elizabethtown College High Library’s podcast “The JayPod: A High Library Production,” is now available for streaming.
The podcast, which began in August 2022, features Etown High Library Instruction and Outreach Librarian Josh Cohen interviewing Etown faculty, students, and staff in an effort to promote their recent work to the Blue Jay community and beyond.
“I hope that Etown listeners will want to check into the podcast to hear about what their peers and colleagues are working on and what kinds of issues and problems they’re thinking about, or in some cases trying to solve,” Cohen said. “I know that I’ve learned a lot from these conversations, so I hope listeners are learning something new as well.”
Ten episodes comprise the first season, with a new interviewee connected to the Etown campus community being featured in each episode. Guests span multiple disciplines, with some of the most popular episodes including Professor and Assistant Director of Academic Advising Curtis Smith detailing his flash fiction and recent History graduate Eric Schubert ’23 providing insight into his genealogy research.
“I’ve tried to interview folks from a wide variety of disciplines that represent the spectrum of research going on at the institution,” Cohen said. “I’ve especially enjoyed the opportunity to talk with students about their research experiences on campus.”
Each episode is between 30 and 40 minutes and is recorded from his office in the High Library, giving the podcast a relaxed feel with open conversation.
Cohen plans to begin a second season of the JayPod, launching at the beginning of the fall 2023 semester. To prepare, he created a feedback survey for the Etown community to better understand what kinds of episodes and guests listeners are interested in.
The JayPod is free to download, and accessible on popular podcast apps like Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and Spotify. Listeners are encouraged to subscribe to the podcast to receive notifications on new episodes this fall.
