(L-R) Tamara Gillis, Professor of Communications and Danielle Bond, Chair of the IABC Executive Board at the IABC World Conference in New York City

Elizabethtown College Professor of Communications Tamara Gillis was named a 2022 Rae Hamlin Award recipient by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

Gillis was recognized at the IABC World Conference 2022 in New York City this past summer.

The award is bestowed annually to individuals who personify the values, generosity of spirit, and commitment to the profession of the IABC. The honor recognizes exemplary service in advocating for the Global Standard of the Communication Profession, which is defined by communication professionals around the world embracing a shared career purpose and six core Principles as the building blocks of their work.

“I remember Rae Hamlin and I had the pleasure of working with her on numerous knowledge center projects,” Gillis said. “I’m touched to be honoring her and her commitment to the communication profession and members of the IABC with this service award named in her honor.”

Gillis’s award recognizes the book,  “The IABC Guide for Practical Communication: A Global Standard Primer,” which she developed, contributed to and edited. Published in 2021, the book provides insights into best practices across communication disciplines and competencies.

“The book is intended for both communications professionals and executives who are not communications experts but who want to understand the discipline,” Gillis said. “The collection provides insights for readers at every stage of their careers. This book is a testament to the community of IABC and the experts who are willing to share their knowledge to continue to build and develop the communication profession.”

Topics include executive communication, internal communication, strategic public relations, and marketing, and highlights competencies such as planning and management, writing and storytelling, and evaluation and analysis.

“IABC has produced these amazing resources and tools to help us all become better at our practice,” Danielle Bond, Chair of the IABC Executive Board for 2021-22 said. “Dr. Gillis showed incredible commitment, resilience, and determination to complete this latest book during the pandemic. We are grateful to her and the other experts who contributed to this project.”
