Elizabethtown College’s Class of 2022 revealed their senior gift at an on-campus social event in late February. Their gift is a mural featuring Blue Jay wings on Zug Memorial Hall, which will serve as an engaging photo backdrop for prospective students and Etown campus community members.
The mural will be painted on a 12 ft. by 10 ft. Canvas and the wings will have 22 bird footprints sprinkled along with the feathers. The mural will not be painted directedly onto Zug, but onto a special canvas that is weather protected so the piece can be enjoyed for many years to come.
“The goal of the senior gift was to create a sense of unity and identity,” Nicole Greiner ‘22, a Business Administration major and president the Class of 2022 said. “You don’t get a sense that we’re Blue Jays when you’re walking around campus unless you go inside a building.
“Having this mural will create that missing identity outside. It will also give perfect photo opportunities for Accepted Student Day, Homecoming, Commencement, and other events.”
The class hopes to add a sidewalk, leading up to the mural, so that the piece can be accessible. This will allow everyone to enjoy the piece and take photos.
“We chose to put the mural on Zug as it’s a popular walking path that the tour guides use to go between the academic buildings and can be a small stop on the tours,” Greiner said. “This centralized location is the perfect spot for a piece of art that screams ‘Etown’.”
The Class of 2022 is still raising money for their mural. They have several upcoming fundraisers this spring including an opportunity to donate $10 and receive a commemorative mason jar, while a $15 donation will earn participants a mason jar and entry into a drawing for a diploma frame.
