The online bachelor’s program awards credit for academy training and on-duty experience
Elizabethtown College’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies (SGPS) is providing Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Academy graduates with a flexible and affordable pathway to advance careers through a recently launched online Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement program.
Through this online program, eligible officers receive 64 transfer credits for their academy training and professional experience, reducing the time and cost needed to earn a degree. Enrollment begins May 11.
“This program serves to ignite a new era for the Pennsylvania State Police and law enforcement education,” Elizabethtown College Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies Marcy McCarty said. “By pairing the Pennsylvania State Police’s rigorous training with the academic strength of our School of Graduate and Professional Studies, this program aims to strengthen the leadership and professional skills essential to today’s public safety environment.”
Admission into the program requires completion of the PSP Academy and at least one year of full-time law enforcement service with arrest powers. Students can complete their degree by taking core courses, skill-based coursework, and general electives through the flexibility of 100% online coursework offered through Etown SGPS.
“This agreement with Elizabethtown College reflects our unwavering commitment to higher education and professional development for our members,” Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens, Acting Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, said. “By building upon the foundation established through our Academy curriculum and aligning it with the academic eminence of Elizabethtown College’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies, we are expanding access to educational opportunities that enable our Troopers to further their education after the Academy.”
