MacKay<\/a>, along with junior chemistry student John Talbott \u201922 and biochemistry alumna Aubrey Maryniak \u201919, recently co-authored the article, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/chemistry-europe.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/chem.202005401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cExtended Peptide Nucleic Acid Nucleobases Based on Isoorotic Acid for the Recognition of A-U Base Pairs in Double-Stranded RNA,\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> published by Chemistry-A European Journal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Article Abstract<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Peptide nucleic acids (PNA) with extended isoorotamide containing nucleobases (Io) were designed for binding A\u2013U base pairs in double\u2010stranded RNA. Isothermal titration calorimetry and UV thermal melting experiments revealed improved affinity for A\u2013U using the Io scaffold in PNA.
