Kylie is working on the back end to develop AI agents to take the documents and turn them into videos while I work on developing the front end application. The goal of our project is to support learning by giving students an alternative way to study their notes.

Why did you choose this topic?

Daly: When Dr. Wang approached me with the project, I was excited to develop my skills working with AI agents and applying them to the front end of an application. With AI being so prevalent in the industry right now, I was eager to get more familiar with how it could be implemented into my work, even as someone who is not in an AI and Data Science concentration.

Ueda: When I heard about this topic, I got very excited because AI is a major interest of mine.

What is the most interesting aspect of this research?

Daly: The most interesting part of this project is knowing we’ll end with a finished product that can genuinely help students succeed. I’ve also really enjoyed learning how to build a website with AI integration since these were tools I hadn’t had the opportunity to use before.

Ueda: The most exciting part is turning complex concepts into engaging videos that allow students to learn more intuitively, while implementing state-of-the-art AI technology into practical, real-world systems. As a Computer Science student who once struggled in Computer Science classes, I am incredibly excited about how this video-generating system can empower other students on their own journeys.

What are you hoping to accomplish through this research project?

Daly: At the end of this project, I hope we have a finished product that we can look into deploying, giving students the ability to use our product as a tool to help them understand computer science topics better. I also hope that through this project, I will have gained skills that will help me succeed in future projects and my career.

Ueda: As a short-term goal, I want to complete this project by developing a more sophisticated agentic AI pipeline where user intent is fully reflected in the generated videos. This will allow our project to go beyond an experimental stage and be used with actual Computer Science course materials.

As a long-term goal, I hope to gain deeper expertise in understanding advanced technologies and integrating them into solutions people can actually utilize on the ground. This dual focus will prepare me well for my future career, as I am interested in pursuing either graduate studies or a role in the tech industry.

Talk about working with your mentor. How have they helped you throughout this experience?

Daly: Dr. Wang allows us to take charge of our individual parts of the project. We are given the freedom to try different approaches and make decisions based on what we think is good for the project. Dr. Wang is a great resource for when we get stuck and has been an amazing guide for us throughout this entire process so far.

Ueda: Working with my mentor, Dr. Wang, has been a highly rewarding experience that has significantly contributed to my professional growth. To be honest, I was initially quite confused because she provided a broad objective rather than a detailed, step-by-step plan. However, this approach turned out to be an incredibly valuable setup for me, as it allowed me to gain invaluable, hands-on experience.

Dr. Wang has helped me by serving as a guide. She allows me to take the lead in technical research and decision-making, while offering valuable feedback whenever I seek her guidance. This approach has not only enhanced my problem-solving skills but also taught me how to take full ownership of a research project.

Hear from the faculty mentor- Dr. Jingwen (Jessica) Wang

Working with Katia and Kylie on this project has been a rewarding experience. The project challenges them to think across multiple disciplines, from designing instructional content to exploring AI-powered video generation and industry-standard web application development. They have approached each challenge with curiosity, creativity, and a strong problem-solving mindset.

Elizabethtown College Computer Science students Katia Daly ’28 and Kylie Ueda ’27 are using advanced AI software to create tangible study materials aimed at supporting their peers as part of Etown’s Summer Creative Arts and Research Program.
