{"id":12896,"date":"2022-09-12T16:19:33","date_gmt":"2022-09-12T20:19:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.etown.edu\/?p=12896"},"modified":"2022-09-13T10:21:17","modified_gmt":"2022-09-13T14:21:17","slug":"elizabethtown-college-faculty-member-publishes-article-on-mental-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.etown.edu\/index.php\/2022\/09\/12\/elizabethtown-college-faculty-member-publishes-article-on-mental-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Elizabethtown College Faculty Member Publishes Article on Mental Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabethtown College Lecturer of English <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etown.edu\/depts\/english\/faculty.aspx\">Erica Dolson<\/a> recently published the essay, \u201cFor My Students, When You&#8217;re Stressed and Anxious,\u201d in the academic journal, <a href=\"https:\/\/woejournal.ucdavis.edu\/about\">Writing on the Edge (WOE)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>WOE is an interdisciplinary journal that focuses on writing and the teaching of writing, and is run by the University of California, Davis.<\/p>\n<p>Dolson originally wrote the piece while completing an online writing course in \u201cNarrative Medicine\u201d in preparation for teaching her interdisciplinary course at Etown, \u201cDisease and Disability: The Science and the Stories.\u201d Her essay is written as a list for both students and teachers, reflecting on the complexities of mental health.<\/p>\n<p>The work first begins as advice on mental health, directed toward Dolson\u2019s students and eventually transitions into a personal reflection on mental health, speaking to college students and teachers alike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis piece is a personal essay and seeing it in print has been both humbling and scary,\u201d Dolson said. \u201cI\u2019m consistently impressed and inspired by the honesty and vulnerability my students bring to their creative writing, and I followed their example in writing this essay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/woejournal.ucdavis.edu\/issues\">The essay is available in the Fall 2020-Spring 2021 print issue of WOE.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabethtown College Lecturer of English Erica Dolson recently published the essay, \u201cFor My Students, When You&#8217;re Stressed and Anxious,\u201d in the academic journal, Writing on the Edge (WOE).
