{"id":11240,"date":"2022-02-10T14:18:58","date_gmt":"2022-02-10T19:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.etown.edu\/?p=11240"},"modified":"2022-02-21T11:19:51","modified_gmt":"2022-02-21T16:19:51","slug":"elizabethtown-college-engineering-professor-featured-in-american-society-for-engineering-education-spotlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.etown.edu\/index.php\/2022\/02\/10\/elizabethtown-college-engineering-professor-featured-in-american-society-for-engineering-education-spotlight\/","title":{"rendered":"Elizabethtown College Engineering Professor Featured in American Society for Engineering Education Spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabethtown College Associate Professor of Engineering &amp; Physics Brenda Read-Daily was recently featured as the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.asee.org\/p-12committee\/category\/news\/p12-monthly-spotlights\/\">American Society for Engineering Education&#8217;s (ASEE) February Spotlight<\/a> for her initiative to bring environmental engineering into the K-12 classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Last spring, Read-Daily visited Palmyra Area High School and engaged AP Chemistry students in water quality testing using environmental engineering techniques. With financial support from the Association of Environmental Engineering &amp; Science Professors (AEESP) Foundation Grant Program, Read-Daily incorporated environmental engineering applications into the AP Chemistry curriculum with the goal of reinforcing conceptual understandings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany high school students are unfamiliar with the opportunities that exist in environmental engineering,\u201d Read-Daily said. \u201cMy hope is that this positive experience at Palmyra Area High School will serve as a springboard for future opportunities with other area high school science classes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read-Daily\u2019s project was also <a href=\"https:\/\/news.etown.edu\/index.php\/2021\/09\/13\/elizabethtown-college-professors-project-with-local-high-school-featured-in-engineering-newsletter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">featured in the June publication of the AEESP Newsletter.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabethtown College Associate Professor of Engineering &amp; Physics Brenda Read-Daily was recently featured as the American Society for Engineering Education&#8217;s (ASEE) February Spotlight for her initiative to bring environmental engineering into the K-12 classroom.
