The Elizabethtown College Honors Council has named Dr. Robert Northington, Assistant Professor of Biology and Environmental Science, as the recipient of the Outstanding Honors Professor Award.
“I am humbled and honored to receive the Outstanding Honors Professor Award this year,” Northington said. “I always strive to provide every student I teach with meaningful learning experiences, but I applaud the willingness of my Honors students this year to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.”
Joining the Etown faculty in 2023, Northington has devoted himself to pursuing meaningful opportunities for students that go beyond the classroom, serving as the academic advisor for Etown’s Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society chapter. This summer, he will conduct environmental research in Greenland, accompanied by a former student.
“I appreciate the faith that students place in me when they choose my classes as an option for their Honors coursework at Etown,” Northington said. “It is good to know that students connect with the way that I approach teaching, and I look forward to more great conversations and learning experiences in the future.”
Each year, the Honors Council, a student-led governing body for the Honors Program, votes on the Outstanding Honors Professor Award, which is presented to a single recipient at the end of each academic year. The Honors Council noted Northington’s ability to cultivate an engaging classroom environment in which students feel inspired to participate in meaningful discussion and raise thoughtful questions.
“Dr. Northington is truly deserving of the Honors Outstanding Professor Award for his unwavering dedication to his students and their success,” a member of the Honors Council said. “Beyond the classroom, his commitment as an academic advisor further reflects his genuine investment in his students’ academic and personal journeys, making him an exceptional and inspiring educator.”
