A retired Maryland-based music educator of 40 years, Bair turned a passion for music into a fulfilling career as he honed his pedagogical capabilities and artistic talents at Etown. In 1978, he founded the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra in Maryland, a premier non-profit community orchestra where he currently serves as the music director. He also pursued additional artistic endeavors, publishing orchestral compositions and arrangements.

Bair is a Harford County (Maryland) Public Schools Educator Hall of Fame inductee and was named a finalist for the 2025 American Prize in composition. He was also recognized as a Harford County Living Treasure for his work in the community, particularly with the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra.

Bair remains active with the Etown Music community, serving as a guest conductor for the College’s Summer Music Camp for more than 20 years.

“Etown prepared me for the world of music and education,” Bair, who graduated from Etown with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education, said. “I have long felt that Etown was encouraging and nurturing, while at the same time being demanding academically.”
