Elizabethtown College recently launched the Make A Deposit, Make A Difference campaign for the seventh consecutive year, partnering with Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD). The College has committed to donate up to $10,000 to SSD by matching a portion of deposits made by first-year students who intend to enroll as members of the Class of 2030.
The matching period to make deposits begins Jan. 5 and runs through April 18.
“Our partnership with Susquehanna Service Dogs reflects the heart of who we are at Etown – an institution where education and service go hand in hand,” Elizabethtown College President Betty Rider said. “Our Make a Deposit, Make a Difference campaign invites future Blue Jays to start their Etown journey by making a meaningful impact on others while investing in their own futures.”
Etown works closely with SSD through the successful, student-run Dogs in the Dell program, which is designed to allow residential students to raise and train service dogs on campus.
Elizabethtown College launched the Make a Deposit, Make a Difference campaign in 2020. The effort aligns with the College’s motto, Educate for Service, which was adopted in 1915. Educate for Service expresses the campus community’s belief that the pursuit of knowledge is most noble when used to benefit others.
“Choosing a college is a big decision, and at Etown, that choice carries meaning beyond the classroom,” Elizabethtown College Vice President for Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications Keri Straub said. “Through this campaign, we offer incoming students an opportunity to begin their Etown journey by contributing to our broader mission and joining a tradition of generosity and service.”
Part of Keystone Human Services, SSD breeds, raises, trains, and places assistance dogs and hearing dogs, as well as facility dogs, to assist children and adults with disabilities to lead the lives they want to live.
“By supporting Susquehanna Service Dogs, Elizabethtown College students spark a powerful chain of giving back,” Deb Tack, Executive Director of SSD, said. “These dogs that students raise and support not only give veterans and people with disabilities the confidence to live more independently in their daily lives, but also give them the ability to do things they never imagined were possible – including giving back to the community.”
Elizabethtown College will hold three Accepted Student Day events on Feb. 14, March 14, and April 18, where students will discover more about the College and connect with faculty, staff, and students. Students can also make their deposits toward the Make a Deposit, Make a Difference campaign.
