Elizabethtown College’s School of Business held its annual retreat at the Cameron Estate Inn in nearby Mount Joy on Aug. 20. The event included a special luncheon with retired faculty and staff members, who were honored for their service to the School and presented with certificates of appreciation.

“This event was uplifting and powerful – a true reminder of the importance of tradition, community, and continuity within the School of Business,” Dr. Hossein Varamini, Elizabethtown College Dean of the School of Business said. “It reinforced our commitment not only to our current students and faculty but also to those who built the foundation before us.”

Five former faculty members, Randy Trostle, Jay Buffenmyer, Maurice Hoppie, Dick Stone, and Thom Elicker, as well as former administrative assistant Eunice Ginder, were honored at the event. Each was presented with a certificate of appreciation signed by Elizabethtown College President Betty Rider.

“It was an honor to be recognized alongside my fellow retirees,” Trostle, Associate Professor of Finance Emeritus said. “History, legacy, and perspective are important in an organization, reminding us that our roots and purpose continue to guide us forward.”

The retirees, who contributed more than 150 years of service to Etown, spoke about their experiences at the College and reflected on the meaningful moments from their careers.

“Their stories were both inspiring and energizing,” Varamini said. “They reminded us of the legacy they created and the profound impact they had on our students, colleagues, and institution.”

Business faculty members also gathered to begin shaping the framework for the School’s five-year strategic plan, as well as discuss initiatives for the academic year, which include incorporating the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence into the School of Business curriculum.
