On Saturday, May 10, more than 500 Blue Jays will cross the stage at Elizabethtown College’s 122nd Commencement ceremony, joining a network of more than 24,000 living Etown alumni. The graduating class includes students who lived out the College’s Educate for Service mission, taking on leadership roles across campus, and leaving their mark on the Etown community.

Name: Jacquelyn Nickel
Major: Engineering, Environmental Concentration
Hometown: Wilmington, Del.

Campus Involvement: Vice President, Society of Women in Engineering (SWE).

Why did you choose Etown?
I chose Etown because of my Aunt Jacque. She played softball here, and when I was touring colleges, she suggested I visit. I looked into Etown’s Engineering program and saw that it was strong, so I decided to apply.

What do you love most about Etown?
What I love the most about Etown is how small and close-knit it is. I have great relationships with all of my Engineering professors and truly feel like they care about me.

What are your plans for after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to take three months off to relax and travel before starting my full-time job as a Highway Design Engineer at Wallace Montgomery – and engineering I interned with the past two summers.

What advice do you have for future Blue Jays?

Go to class, talk to your professors, ask all of the questions, and take full advantage of the resources Etown offers. Do not forget to embrace growth and keep moving forward.
