Elizabethtown College School of Graduate and Professional Studies (SGPS) recently announced the 2024-25 Faculty Teaching Excellence Award recipient is Mike Shook, an Assistant Teaching Professor and the Director of Clinical Training for the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program.
“I was both surprised and humbled to receive this year’s award,” Shook said. “It is a genuine gift to teach, learn, and grow alongside our Counseling Psychology students, and I am deeply grateful to be honored in this way.”
Student nominations commended Shook for his ability to relate course material to real-world examples, making assignments creative, and asking thought-provoking questions. He was also noted for his genuine care for his students and for valuing their perspectives by creating a safe space for them to share their feelings without judgment.
“Professor Shook is not only an exceptional educator but also a true advocate for student success,” Elizabethtown College Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies Marcy McCarty said. “His dedication to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment is truly inspiring. He consistently seeks ways to enhance the program, always putting students’ needs and well-being at the forefront. His passion for teaching and commitment to his students’ growth are truly appreciated.”
