Rumors is a comedy set in the 1980s at a dinner party in New York. Chaos ensues, and guests must work to dispel rumors, cover-ups, and mistaken identities in a witty and comedic fashion.

“Rumors is such a wild ride, and I cannot wait to bring the campus community into our space to experience easily the funniest show we’ve put on in several years,” Student Assistant Director Sarah Jakubowski ’26 said. “There are so many amazingly talented students, staff, and guest artists working together to make this happen, and we are all beyond thrilled to share what we’ve spent all semester putting together.”

Tempest Theatre’s set design for the play will be their most ambitious in recent years. It includes multiple stories, doorways, and several fun surprises to enhance the high-energy comedy in the show. Encore, Elizabethtown College’s Alumni Theatre Affinity Group, helped with the set and costumes as part of one of their service days on Sept. 29 during Etown’s annual homecoming celebration.

Alumni helped to install the second floor of the set, hung and cabled lights, organized the costume shop, and pulled costumes from inventory for the show.

Jakubowski will work with director Kristin Wolanin, a long-time performer, director, and educator in the Lancaster Area. Wolanin has previously worked with Tempest Theatre as the director of “Alice in Wonderland” in fall 2022 and as the dialect coach for “The Language Archive” in fall 2023 and “Melancholy Play” in spring 2024.
