Elizabethtown College Associate Professor of English Tara Moore recently published two pieces on director Autumn de Wilde’s 2020 movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s literary classic, “Emma.”
Moore’s first piece, “Droll Servants and Lasting Friendships: How de Wilde’s Emma Updates Issues of Class,” is available online through the leading Jane Austen publication, Persuasions Online. The essay covers de Wilde’s approach to friendship and interactions between servants throughout “Emma.”
Moore’s latest essay, “A Quirky, Colorful, Romantic Comedy for the Twenty-First Century: De Wilde’s Emma (2020)” was published in the collection “Retelling Jane Austen: Essays on Recent Adaptations and Derivative Works.” It explores how de Wilde reworked Austen’s story for today’s fans of the romantic comedy genre.
Moore serves as the co-coordinator for the Maryland region of the Jane Austen Society of North America. She also leads Etown students on a study abroad tour in England which explores the Bath region’s influence on Austen and the English novelist’s cottage.
