Recently, Elizabethtown College announced the appointment of Dr. Alan Utter as Dean of the newly formed School of Sciences and Health. Utter will begin his role as Dean on July 1.

“Dr. Utter’s extensive experience in higher education and the healthcare industry uniquely qualify him to lead Elizabethtown College’s School of Sciences and Health,” Elizabethtown College President Betty Rider said. “I am excited to see how his innovative and collaborative leadership will enhance our School while ensuring current and future Blue Jay students thrive and achieve their full potential.”

Having most recently served as the Vice President for Business Development at Integrated Health 21, a Pittsburgh-based provider of coordinated health management programs and services. Utter arrives at Etown with significant experience in higher education as the previous Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research at Arkansas State University.

“It is an honor and privilege to assist Elizabethtown College’s faculty in their quest for excellence in the classroom and their research and service aspirations,” Utter said. “One of my first priorities will be to spend significant time listening to and talking with the faculty to understand their academic and professional goals and I am looking forward to it. I want to express my gratitude to the selection committee and President Rider for their confidence in extending the opportunity to join the Etown community.”

Utter earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Exercise Physiology, Master of Public Health, Master of Science in Exercise Physiology, and Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Pittsburgh.

Several curricular programs from Elizabethtown College’s School of Sciences and School of Human and Health Professions will be realigned to form the School of Sciences and Health on July 1. The newly formed School of Sciences and Health will feature the following undergraduate major programs at Etown: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (B.S.), Biology (B.S.), Biotechnology (B.S.), Chemistry (B.S.), Chemistry Lab Science (B.S.), Environmental Science (B.S.), Exercise Science (B.S.), Health Sciences (B.S.), Neuroscience (B.S.), and Psychology (B.A.). 

The School will also contain graduate programs in Occupational Therapy (M.S.) and Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS), along with the Occupational Therapy (OTD) doctorate program. 

Elizabethtown College is home to six Schools, each offering a variety of programs, activities, and organizations. In addition to the School of Sciences and Health, Etown’s undergraduate schools include, the School of Arts and Humanities, the School of Business, the School of Engineering and Computer Science, and the School of Public Service, along with the School of Graduate and Professional Studies (SGPS).
