On Jan. 28, 1996, the campus community gathered to celebrate the dedication of a new space on campus, the scenic $4.2 million Leffler Chapel and Performance Center.

Named after Carlos R. Leffler, a long-time trustee of the College and prominent businessman, and his wife Georgiana E. Leffler, the chapel filled a need on campus for a building that could accommodate all Etown students at once. It would also serve as a center to showcase musicians and artists, both on campus and from around the world. The dedication honored individuals who contributed to the chapel and featured performances from students and faculty and remarks from campus leaders.

More than 360 tons of structural steel and more than five miles of high-grade wood trim were used in the construction of the building, with purple and gold accents featured on the interior design to create harmony between the performance and chapel elements of the building.

Several spaces expand on the multi-use aspect of the chapel, including the Musser Auditorium which seats 940 audience members, the M&M Mars Room, and the Lyet Art Gallery. The building also houses the unique Clifford B. ’47 and Hazel K. Huffman ’49 Electronic Organ.
