As we celebrate Elizabethtown College’s 125th anniversary, we’re sharing the favorite stories of our alumni, students, staff, and faculty during their time at Etown. Whether it’s a funny anecdote from your dorm days, a moment of mentorship from a class or professor, or a standout experience from a campus event, these stories submitted by members of the Blue Jay community not only commemorate the rich history of our institution but also serve as a reminder of the lasting impact that Elizabethtown College has had on the lives of so many individuals.
Jeremy Ebersole ’05 – Mass Communication/Media Studies
I was fortunate to work for Etown as an admissions counselor for three of the best years of my life (2006-09) following my 2005 graduation from the College. The most meaningful part of that experience was the relationships I formed with students, helping them find their place at the College and in the world, as well as working side by side in service to our community. Nothing embodies that more than a service trip to New Orleans to help with Hurricane Katrina disaster recovery in 2007 through the Service Learning department and the Lend A Hand organization. I served as a staff supervisor on the trip, which helped reconstruct hurricane-damaged houses, but I also became close friends with some of the students. Jacob Keeler ’09 and I (seen here as a fast food stop on the road trip down) became close friends, and he was one of the groomsmen at my wedding in 2017.
I’ve also been proud to continue Etown’s Educate for Service motto forward many years later and have made my career working for nonprofits focused on restoring historic places.
