The 2023-2024 Kreider Prize for Teaching Excellence recipient is Dr. Elizabeth Dalton, Program Director, Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Associate Professor of Psychology.

“I am deeply honored to be this year’s recipient of the Kreider Prize for Teaching Excellence,” Dalton said. “I am continually grateful to work at an institution with such wonderful students, faculty, and staff, whose commitment to one another and our Educate for Service motto is truly inspiring.”

The Professional Development Committee chose Dalton from nominations submitted by alumni, current students, faculty, and staff. In addition to receiving a monetary award, she will be invited to deliver the Kreider Prize Lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. More details to follow.

“The Professional Development Committee is pleased to select Dr. Elizabeth Dalton for the 2024 Kreider Prize,” Chair of the Professional Development Committee Kristi Arnold said. “Students, alumni, faculty, and staff praise her outstanding mentorship, excellence in teaching, and classroom engagement, as well as her empathy in the classroom.”

Nomination letters portray Dalton as an empowering and inspiring mentor to many. Students recognized her ability to make learning enjoyable while inspiring those around her to be compassionate, patient, and kind.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dalton serves as the Director of the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology Program and runs the Stress and Health Research Lab on campus. Students who have had the opportunity to collaborate with her on research, mention that she is a “gifted research supervisor” who provides “thoughtful, informed, and helpful feedback every step of the way.”

About the Kreider Prize
Through the generosity of Thomas Conner ’72, professor of history at Hillsdale College, the annual award is made possible and awarded to a current Elizabethtown College faculty member for excellence in teaching and mentoring. The award is named in honor of J. Kenneth Kreider, professor of history emeritus, and Carroll L. Kreider, professor of business emerita, “for their inspirational service to countless students at Elizabethtown College.” The Kreiders were not only inspirational in the classroom but also were powerful mentors and role models.
