Elizabethtown College Criminal Justice and Psychology dual major Gina Roscoe ’25, and Director of Criminal Justice Dr. Kadee Crandall recently completed training with the Pardon Project of Lancaster County to become pardon coaches for Pennsylvania. Pardon coaches assist in the application process for those seeking pardons.

“This training provided me with the tools and resources needed to become educated in areas that will make a lasting impact in the community around us,” Roscoe said.

During the training, a screening of the documentary “Pardon Me” by filmmaker Shuja Moore was featured. Moore showcased individuals sharing the barriers they continue to face from their criminal record and highlighted the challenges of applying for a pardon. Following the film, attendees were given instructions and materials on how to assist those seeking a pardon, including how to guide those completing the Application for Clemency in Pennsylvania.

After graduating, Roscoe plans to become a licensed therapist through Etown’s Master’s in Counseling Psychology program. She aims to work in prisons and provide substance abuse therapy to individuals experiencing addiction.

“This training will be extremely beneficial because many of my future clients will be facing these same hardships when they re-enter society from incarceration,” Rosco said. “It’s beneficial for me to know all the options that can help those I work with start fresh in life and set them up for success.”

Crandall asked Roscoe to participate in training with her after learning about Roscoe’s interest in the Lancaster County Reentry Coalition, an organization that works with formerly incarcerated individuals to help them reenter society. Roscoe is actively involved in events promoted by the coalition, and recently underwent a training with the organization to better understand how individuals, especially children, are impacted by trauma.

“I’m very impressed with Gina’s passion for gaining new skills and participating in growth opportunities outside of the classroom,” Crandall said. “This training provided her with valuable first-hand experience applicable to her majors.”
