Elizabethtown College Turnbull-Jamieson Chair and Professor of Finance and International Business, Dr. Hossein Varamini recently earned a prestigious Fulbright Specialist Award for the spring of 2024.
“The Fulbright Award provides new opportunities for me to reach several of my professional goals related to global business and economic issues,” Varamini said. “I am honored to have received this special recognition for my professional work.”
Varamini will spend sabbatical leave this spring at the Ecole Supérieure du Commerce et des Affaires (ESCA) University in Casablanca, Morocco. The school is the first AACSB-accredited school in Morocco and French-speaking Africa. It is also ranked as the Best Business School in Morocco by Eduniversal. Varamini will teach a course in international business and work with faculty at the institution to assess their international business curriculum. Varamini will also conduct collaborative research related to Foreign Direct Investment and Sustainable Development in Morocco and North Africa.
One of the main goals of the Fulbright Program is to develop international understanding by establishing long-term cooperative relationships between international higher education institutions. Varamini plans to work collaboratively with faculty and administrators at ESCA to create and strengthen a mutually beneficial relationship between Etown and ESCA.
At Etown, Varamini teaches courses that focus on global and international aspects of business and finance. He is looking forward to bringing the knowledge that he gains through this experience back with him next fall to share with Blue Jay students and colleagues.
“I will miss being at Etown for a semester, however, I will not be away from what I love to do: teaching, research, and working with students,” Varamini said. “As a result of being at ESCA in Morocco, I will become a more informed teacher and a better scholar. My students at Etown will benefit from this professional development opportunity.”
The Fulbright Program is devoted to increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Fulbright is the world’s largest and most diverse international educational exchange program.
