Elizabethtown College will welcome David Hogg on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. for the annual Leffler Lecture in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. Hogg is a survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. shooting and a gun control activist.
Hogg will present his lecture, “Engage in the Change: Owning Democracy and Not Living in Fear of Ending Gun Violence,” where he will discuss his emotional experiences as a survivor of gun violence along with political lessons learned through his advocacy efforts. His lecture will also outline his thoughts on what citizens must do to effect political change and end living in fear of gun violence. His lecture will be followed by a public book signing in Leffler Chapel & Performance Center.
A prolific voice on social media with more than a million followers, David uses his platform to promote civic engagement, activism, and voting. Together with friends from high school, Hogg co-founded March For Our Lives, now one of the world’s largest youth-led movements, and mobilized one of the largest demonstrations in the nation’s history where he addressed an estimated 800,000 protestors in Washington, D.C.
The Leffler Lecture is free and open to the public and made possible by a generous endowed gift from Linda ’67, H’03, and Patrick Castagna. Hogg will serve as the first of four internationally known speakers as part of this year’s 2023-24 Elizabethtown College Lecture Series. Register today!
