Dr. Donna Hicks, Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University

Elizabethtown College’s Center for Global Understanding and Peacebuilding (CGUP) will host author and internationally-renowned authority on dignity, Dr. Donna Hicks for the annual Peace Fellow Lecture on Monday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Susquehanna Room, Myer Hall.

Hicks, an Associate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University and the 2023 Elizabethtown College Peace Fellow, will present her lecture, “Dignity: Its Essential Role in Resolving Conflict” where she will discuss using dignity to lead and resolve conflict while creating a culture that brings out the best in others. The event is free and open to the public.

“We are honored to host Dr. Hicks on our campus and continue our dialogue and skill-building around restorative practices,” Elizabethtown College Director of the Center for Global Understanding and Peacebuilding Dr. Shannon Haley-Mize said. “Her work is an essential dimension in efforts to create a thriving community that celebrates the dignity and belonging of all.”

Based at the Weatherhead Center for more than two decades, Hicks has successfully applied her signature dignity model on a global stage. Her clients include World Bank, the United Nations, the U.S. Navy, and governments worldwide. She currently helps leaders in business, health care, government, education, and other fields to create cultures that foster innovation and dignified human relationships.

Hicks is the author of the books,” Dignity: Its Essential Role in Resolving Conflict” and “Leading with Dignity: How to Create a Culture That Brings Out the Best in People,” and has taught courses in conflict resolution at Harvard, Clark, and Columbia Universities while conducting training and educational seminars around the world.

While at Etown, Hicks will appear in an episode of Elizabethtown College Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, Kevin Shorner-Johnson’s Music & Peacebuilding podcast, and will speak at several classes.

Hicks follows in a tradition of esteemed Peace Fellows at Elizabethtown College as each year, the College hosts a several-day residency of a peace scholar. The lecture is sponsored by the Elizabethtown College Peace Fellowship in conjunction with the CGUP.
