Elizabethtown College is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins on Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 15, with a series of on-campus events. The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (DEB) is partnering with other offices and student groups on campus to host a variety of programs to celebrate and support Hispanic achievement and culture. Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-off and Flag Raising | Friday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. | BSC Concourse
Join us as we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month with a vibrant celebration of Latinx and Hispanic culture. This event, organized by Etown’s Latinx / Hispanic Student Union, marks the beginning of a month-long celebration that showcases diversity, opposes historical exclusion, and creates cultural spaces for all members of our campus community. Make sure to visit the Traveling to Latinoamerica event, which takes place in the BSC Concourse immediately following the Flag Raising.

The Pennsylvania Latino Convention is transformative and intentional for Latinos and non-Latinos and is designed to empower, educate, and celebrate our communities. All Pennsylvanians are encouraged to attend and participate in the many professional and leadership development opportunities as well as to learn about the issues impacting communities across the state; find collaborative efforts; and, be engaged in data/research/policy work to advance the social, educational, political, and economic status of Pennsylvania’s Latino population. Support Encourage Empower (SEE) Us serves as a support group for students of color at Etown. Participants are encouraged to talk, listen, and fellowship with peers about their shared experiences in relation to race, gender, relationships, belonging, and equity in the collegiate setting. A place for BIPOC students to feel validated, Supported, Encouraged, and Empowered, meetings take place each Thursday starting Sept. 21 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Mosaic House.

Ubuntu Mentor Taco Night | Sunday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. | Mosaic House
While celebrating the joy of mentorship, this Taco Night event also serves as a fun-filled addition to the month’s festivities. It brings together the elements of cultural appreciation, delicious cuisine, and meaningful interactions, creating an atmosphere of celebration and unity. How to be a Good Ally | Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. | Mosaic House
In the spirit of Ubuntu, we come together as a united campus community to explore the importance of being a strong ally. Through this mentor-specific event, we encourage participants to reflect on the interconnectedness of our experiences and the impact of allyship in creating a more inclusive and supportive environment. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a night of dancing and dinner in the Bowers Center! Staff Counselor Kayshen Morel will be teaching Bachata, Merengue, and Salsa, while Guadalupe Barba from the restaurant La Placita de Lebanon will be creating authentic dishes from regions of Mexico! Registering for the dancing class automatically registers you for the dinner. Space is limited to 20 participants.
