Four students from Elizabethtown College’s School of Sciences recently participated in McCaskey East High School’s Bridge to Employment program this spring. The Bridge to Employment Program is a monthly program that connects high school students with local higher education and industry partners in the STEM field.

Etown students Sarah Marston ’24 (Biology major), Tristan Mabee ’24 (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), Madison Carey ’24 (Biology), and Shannon Campbell ’23 (Biology), provided a series of hands-on anatomy and physiology-themed activities for the high school students.

“Being a first-generation student myself, I know how hard it can be to take that first step into STEM,” Mabee ’24, said. “This program improves the accessibility of various STEM fields to interested students, bridging the knowledge gap and helping students make informed decisions as they move on to their next level of education in STEM.”

The School of Sciences students emphasized human anatomy and physiology for the day by engaging the high school students in several activities that included building a skeleton puzzle and a hands-on activity to label the various anatomical structures of the heart.
