Elizabethtown College recently announced the recipients of the inaugural David C. Beidleman Exemplar Staff Award at the institution’s annual Employee Milestone Celebration.
The Staff Award was established by David Beidleman who retired as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Elizabethtown College last June. David created the award to honor and recognize staff members for their selflessness and service to others for the benefit of Elizabethtown College and/or the greater community.
The 2022-23 recipients are Technical Operations Director Barry Fritz and Administrative Assistant for the School of Engineering, Math & Computer Science, Jennifer McFadden.
Barry has been working at Etown for the last 27 years and was nominated by colleagues for his deep commitment to ensuring students are successful in all they pursue–inside and outside of the classroom.
“We also heard countless times of Barry giving his spare time designing, building, and lighting theater sets and shows that the students and entire community all benefit from immensely,” Elizabethtown College President Betty Rider said.
Barry also serves as oversight of theatre productions including two annual mainstage shows, the Etown Shorts Fest, and the New Playwright’s Festival.
Administrative Assistant for the School of Engineering, Math & Computer Science, Jennifer McFadden is the second recipient and has worked at Etown for the past 14 years.
“Jennifer’s nominators outlined again and again how helpful she is with students’ course scheduling—ensuring each one is able to take each class they need to take to graduate on time,” President Rider said.
In addition, Jennifer has also served in leadership roles on the Employee Wellness Team from 2009 to 2013 and from 2015 to the present. She is recognized as an exemplary leader by her staff peers as she was elected to the Staff Council in August 2022 and serves as its Secretary. She has also given her time to the Campus Association of Administrative Professionals from 2008 to 2015 in various roles including Member, President, Vice President; and Middle States Secretary.
Both recipients of the David C. Beidleman Exemplar Staff Award receive a $1,000 prize for their contributions.
