Elizabethtown College Associate Professor of Engineering Brenda Read-Daily co-authored a manuscript that was published in the international journal Chemosphere, a multidisciplinary publication on chemicals in the environment.
The manuscript, “Effect of nitrous oxide (N2O) on the structure and function of nitrogen-oxide reducing microbial communities,” explored the effects of Nitrous Oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas, on microbial communities.
“This research improves the understanding of how denitrifying microbial communities respond to the presence of N2O and shows the capacity for N2O reductions by these microorganisms,” explained Read-Daily.
Read-Daily co-authored the paper with Sarah Ben Maamar of the Weill Cornell Medicine, Fabrizio Sabba of Black and Veatch, Stefan Green of Rush Medical College, and Robert Nerenberg of Notre Dame’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences.
