Elizabethtown College came together this holiday season in support of the local community, as students organized and participated in the Angel Tree Project. An annual holiday tradition, Angel Tree is a gift-giving event sponsored by the Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) and Student Senate.
“The Angel Tree Project has convinced me how beneficial it is for college campuses to get involved in their community,” student volunteer Abbie Machmer ’26 said. “I look forward to working with the CCCE to continue spreading the holiday spirit with this tradition in the future!”
This year, the CCCE and Student Senate sponsored a total of 66 children, veterans, and people with disabilities, purchasing gifts that were donated to several community organizations including ECHOS, Milagro House, Clare House, Domestic Violence Services, IU13 Bainbridge, and IU13 Central Education Center.
“Etown students participating in the Angel Tree Project have the opportunity to make a person who is less fortunate, feel special during the holidays,” CCCE Student Coordinator Kylie Evoy ’24 said.
Etown Student Senate members manned tables in the Baugher Student Center (BSC) throughout the month of November, collecting gift donations from campus community members. Students then volunteered to wrap gifts after all donations were collected and will be distributing them to participating services on Dec. 6 to 8.
Continuing the spirit of giving back to the community, Senate members also sponsored a blanket-making event on Dec. 1. Etown students and employees gathered in the Jay Lounge to create blankets that will be donated to those in need this holiday season.
