Elizabethtown College alumnus Eric Sevareid ‘17 was recently awarded the Adamchak Award in Demography at Bowling Green State University.

The Adamchak Award recognizes the success of a graduate student’s independent research in demography. Sevareid earned the honor for his research on “churning,” the idea that separating and reconnecting with the same partner in early adulthood often leads to adult union dissolution.

Sevareid graduated from Etown in 2017, where he majored in Philosophy, and is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Bowling Green State University. Crediting the Etown course, “Population and Global Issues” for his understanding of demography, Sevareid’s career focuses on social psychology and quantitative methods, involving demography by showing the multitude of different romantic relationships and the impact they can have on marital status, residency, birth of children, etc.

Sevareid has presented his research at several conferences including the American Sociological Association annual meeting, the Population Association of America meeting, and the OSU/BGSU Annual Conference on Population.
