Internationally recognized artist and recent artist in residence at Elizabethtown College Helen Berggruen is displaying work in her exhibition, “Between Two Worlds” at the Demuth Museum in Lancaster City until July 24.
Learn more about Berggruen’s work through a recent DeMuth Foundation interview.
In conjunction with Berggruen’s show at the museum, current, and emeritus Etown Fine Arts faculty Kristi Arnold, Mahua Bhattacharya, Dan Burns, Jeff Bye, Linda Eberly, Milt Friedly, Patricia Likos Ricci, Lou Schellenberg, and Dante Weikel are also exhibiting work in the upstairs gallery at Demuth. The exhibit of Etown faculty work follows the same theme as Berggruen’s show, “Between Two Worlds.”
Berggruen, who completed a residency at Etown from April 18 to May 8, 2022, where she created monotype prints with the assistance of Professor of Art Milt Friedly and gave a public talk in Steinman’s Brinser Lecture Room during her stay on campus. She also traveled around Lancaster County, making small watercolor paintings of local sites.
A dozen of Berggruen’s oil paintings, inspired by environments around the country, are featured at the DeMuth exhibit, alongside the recently completed watercolors from her residency.
Berggruen’s residency at the College was made possible due to the generosity and dedication of alumnus George Krevsky ‘62, who, along with Friedly and Executive Director of the Demuth Foundation Abby Baer, was also instrumental in organizing Berggruen’s show at the Demuth Museum.
Krevsky has collaborated with the Etown Fine Arts department on several initiatives over the years, bringing various Visiting Artists to campus and spearheading the fall 2018 exhibit of poet, painter, and activist Lawrence Ferlinghetti in the Lyet Gallery.
The Demuth Museum is located on East King Street in Lancaster City. Admission is by donation with a suggested donation of $5 per person. View current exhibition hours.
