Elizabethtown College Director of Honors Program & Professor of Political Science/Professor of International Studies, Oya Dursun-Özkanca, was recently named an Institute for Civically Engaged Research (ICER) fellow.

Dursun-Özkanca received the fellowship through a competitive application for an American Political Science Association (APSA) ICER workshop, which will take place from June 19-24, at Tufts University.

Last year, Dursan-Özkanca became a recipient of a Mellon Grant, which allowed her to offer a new online course for students during the summer term titled, “Refugees in Global and Local Context.”

Dursan-Özkanca emphasized how the workshop would positively impact her work in the classroom, which was an integral part of her ICER application.

“Attending this workshop will improve my research skills on issues revolving around refugee populations, develop my understanding of the means to address problems with regards to refugee integration in host countries, and provide me with an opportunity to share my experiences with regards to the use of two refugee simulations in the class,” Dursan-Özkanca said. “It is an excellent opportunity to connect with other scholars on civically-engaged research.”
