Elizabethtown College Assistant Director of Academic Advising Curtis Smith has recently published a cycle of new short stories.

His most recent works have been featured or are forthcoming in multiple publications including, Atticus Review, New World Writing, JMWW, Matter: A Journal of Creative Arts, X-R-A-Y, Pithead Chapel, and Gargoyle.

“The stories I’ve recently placed were from a cycle I wrote this fall while teaching a couple of creative writing classes here at Etown,” Smith said. “I found myself motivated by the work I witnessed in class. Sometimes I’ll read the class’s responses and then get motivated to give the prompt a try myself. That led the way to two of my recently published stories.”

In the past, his work has been cited by or featured in The Best American Short Stories, The Best American Mystery Stories, The Best American Spiritual Writing, The Best Small Fictions, and in the Norton anthology New Microfictions.

His novel, “The Magpie’s Return” was also named one to the Kirkus Review’s Best Indie Books of 2020.

Smith, who teaches creative writing and provides academic advising, has published approximately 150 stories and essays throughout his career.
