Elizabethtown College Professor of Musicology Elected as President of Society for American Music

Elizabethtown College Professor of Musicology Douglas Bomberger was recently elected president of the Society for American Music (SAM).

The Society for American Music is a non-profit organization devoted to the study and teaching of music of the Americas.

For the next year, Bomberger will serve as president-elect, working alongside the current SAM President Daniel Goldmark. Bomberger will serve as acting president from March of 2023 to March of 2025 and then remain on the board for an additional year, as a past president.

“I joined the Society over 30 years ago as a student and being elected to lead the organization is one of the highest honors of my career,” Bomberger said.

As president, Bomberger’s first goal is to begin planning for the organization’s 50^th anniversary, which will take place in 2025. He also hopes to continue fostering the friendly, inclusive spirit of SAM, as well as collaborate with the Board, Executive Director, and donors to ensure a sound financial basis for the society’s next half-century.

Bomberger has taught music history and piano at Etown since 2005 and has served as Chair of Fine and Performing Arts and President of Faculty Assembly. In 2018-19, he was recognized for his scholarly work by being named the recipient of the Etown Ranck Prize for Research Excellence.
