Elizabethtown College Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major Kaylynn Leap ‘23 was recently accepted into the 74th Pennsylvania Collegiate Bandmasters Association Intercollegiate Band Festival. The festival brings the best musicians from all colleges and universities in Pennsylvania for three days of intensive rehearsals at Shippensburg University from February 25-27, ending with a performance on the final day.

A total of 130 musicians from over 30 colleges across the state of Pennsylvania are accepted into the annual Pennsylvania Collegiate Bandmasters Association Intercollegiate Band Festival. For the event, a nationally known guest conductor is selected, and a challenging program of music is chosen. Leap is beyond excited to have been chosen to participate in this experience.

“I am most looking forward to having the absolute time of my life sharing my passion for music with the most passionate collegiate musicians Pennsylvania has to offer,” Leap expressed.

Leap has been playing the clarinet for 10 years. At Etown, she has participated in at least one ensemble each semester, including the Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Clarinet Ensemble, and Jazz Band. Her passion for playing and her dedication to practicing has helped her reach her current level of skill.

The clarinet always brings me joy,” Leap said. “If I could practice all day, I would. I always strive to be the best version of myself. No matter the group of musicians, I love just having the opportunity to come together and create music. Music demands perfection, and everyone always gives it all they have because we are all passionate to represent what music can do.”

Outside of her passion for music, Leap completes research with Dean of the School of Sciences Jodi Lancaster and tutors for various chemistry courses. She’s also the Chemistry Club Treasurer, the College’s Against Cancer Food and Entertainment Chair, and a member of the Women in STEM club.

The festival performance will take place on Sunday, February 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Shippensburg University’s H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center. Admission to the event is free and open to all.
