Elizabethtown College student Kathryn Black ’24 was recently accepted into the Disney College Program (DCP). This five- to seven-month program allows participants to network with leaders, take part in personal and career development classes, and build transferable skills like problem-solving, teamwork, guest service, and effective communication.

The DCP sees around 12,000 students apply for each of the start date options, but only about 20% are accepted. Black grew up as a fan of Disney and Disney World, and she has visited the park over 20 times, so being accepted into this program was an exciting accomplishment.

“I am most looking forward to meeting others who love Disney as much as me,” said Black. “I am also looking forward to being able to get to work for Disney as it has been a dream of mine to participate in the DCP since I heard about it.”

Although Black is not sure exactly where she will be working at Disney, the program often places students in positions that give them experience based on their major and/or minor. Black will move to the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., and start her program on January 18. She will take a leave of absence from Etown in the spring semester, before returning to campus in the fall.

At Etown, Black is a heavily involved member of campus, serving as a Blue Jay Ambassador, a Resident Assistant, and a member of several clubs such as Lighthouse, Emotion, and the Yearbook.

After graduation, the Biology major with a Health Professions Concentration hopes to continue her education to eventually become a Physician’s Assistant.
