Elizabethtown College students showcased their creativity to celebrate National America Recycles Day on Monday, Nov. 15. Hosted by the Class of 2024 Student Senate, students were offered the opportunity to paint/decorate a take-home recycling container in the KAV.

Along with cookies and apple cider, information pamphlets about the “do’s and don’ts” of recycling were handed out to help educate the campus community.

Maddi Holmberg ‘24, Class of 2024 President, spoke to the importance of sustainability practices in the community and reflected on what the initiative provides to Etown’s campus.

“America Recycles Day is a day where people can refresh their recycling knowledge and commit themselves to reducing their waste, reusing all they can, and  recycling as much as possible,” said Holmberg. “It is great to see Etown students so excited to participate in an event where they are able to learn new ways to be more sustainable on campus.”

This event was one of the several sustainability initiatives taken by the Class of 2024 Senate, whose mission is centered on advocating to make our campus a more sustainable place.

To encourage the practice of recycling on campus, the Class of 2024 Senate has provided students with a guide to successful sustainability, as well as many environmentally friendly events throughout the school year, including a timely Halloween initiative where the group provided bins around campus that allowed the campus community to responsibly discard their fresh pumpkins.
