Elizabethtown College Professor of Spanish Charla Lorenzen visited the Spanish Honor Society of Warwick High School in October to share her dedication to learning and teaching, as well as to encourage students to further their knowledge of modern language.
Lorenzen shared with the students her advice on continuing language learning by discussing the importance of practicing outside of the classroom, noting that Etown strives to have students practice and engage with the language through speaking, listening, reading, and writing – and learning about the cultures in which Spanish is spoken.
“Etown’s language requirement is very different from that of most colleges and universities,” said Lorenzen. “Our College emphasizes trying something new or delving deeper into a language you’ve already studied; the former expands your horizons and makes you a more empathetic human toward other language learners, and the latter moves you forward in your proficiency.”
