Cristina Ciocirlan, associate professor of management and chair of the Department of Business, had a new article accepted for publication in the European Management Review journal. The article is titled “Using Values, Beliefs, and Norms to Predict Conserving Behaviors in Organizations,” and it is written in collaboration with Dr. Diana Gregory-Smith and Dr. Danae Manika, both professors at The Newcastle University Business School, and Dr. Victoria Wells, York University, UK. Research for the article was funded by the US-UK Fulbright Commission and Durham University, UK.

JUNE 2018

Hossein Varamini, professor of finance and international business, and Anastassiya Sayenko ’19 recently published a collaborative manuscript in a refereed Journal. The paper, with the title of “Impact Investing: Relying on Social Return on Investment to Address Epilepsy in Africa,” appeared in the Cyrus Chronicle Journal, Volume 3, A2, in May 2018. Varamini had presented this joint paper at the Cyrus Institute of Knowledge Conference in Casablanca, Morocco in March 2018.

 

MAY 2018

Economics majors Dannielle Kerstetter ’19 and Nicholas Lecastas ’21 were recently published in the WACH Journal of International Thought Global Economics Edition, Vol 9, Spring 2018. Kerstetter’s piece is titled “Childcare in Europe and the U.S.;” Lecastas piece is “Economics of Disaster Relief.”

Cristina Ciocirlan, associate professor of management and chair of the Department of Business, presented a manuscript, “Green employees: An empirical testing of a theoretical model,” at the Academy of Business Research conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, which took place at the end of March. The manuscript is co-authored with Ruth McKay, Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Petru Sandu, associate professor, in the Department of Business, presented ” A Framework of Understanding the Professionalization of Family Business: An Organizational Life Cycle Perspective” at the Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise Research Conference, University of Extremadura, Badajoz, Spain.

 

DECEMBER 2017

Terrie Riportella, director of the accounting program in the Department of Business, presented a two-hour workshop Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, called “Understanding Financial Reporting,” for the High Center Best Practices series.

She also presented a two-hour workshop, titled “1040 Overview & Client Conversations” for Lancaster United Way’s Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) program on Oct. 4.

Hossein Varamini, professor of finance and international business in the Department of Business, published a paper with international business students Jason Clough ’17 and Madison McCall ’17. “An Empirical Investigation of the International Fisher Effect: Mexican Peso and United States Dollar” was published in the International Journal of Economics and Financial Research, vol. 3, Issue 1-7.

He also published a peer-reviewed paper, “The Linkage Between Insider Trading Activities, Market Efficiency and Stock Information Content,” with Emma Neuhauser, associate professor of finance, and Trang Hoang ’15 in the Journal of Business & Economic Policy, Vol. 4, No. 3, September 2017.


AUGUST 2017

Blair Hendricks ’18, international business major, attended the Landmark Conference Summer Research Symposium in July 2017 and presented a talk about her SCARP research project, “AASHE STARS: The Coordination and Funding of Sustainability Efforts at Elizabethtown College.”

Hossein Varamini, the College’s Turnbull-Jamieson Professor of Finance and International Business and director of international business; Emma Neuhauser, associate professor of finance, and Trang Hoang ’15, international business, published a paper, titled “The Linkage between Insider Trading Activities, Market Efficiency and Stock Information Content” in the Journal of Business & Economic Policy. This manuscript will appear in the September 2017 issue of the Journal. An earlier version of this paper was presented at the 12th Annual London Business Research Conference, July 10-12, 2017.

Varamini also published a collaborative research paper in the International Journal of Economics and Financial Research, Volume 3, No. 7 in June 2017, with two recent international business graduates Madison McCall and Jason Clough.
