Susan Asbury, director of student rights and responsibilities, received the G. Rollie Adams and the Mary Valentine and Cosman research fellowships from The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. The Strong houses the world’s largest collections of historical materials related to play, and the fellowships will afford Asbury the opportunity to complete her dissertation research on late-19th- and early-20th-century board games.
Douglas Bomberger, professor of music, presented “November 1917: The End of the Long Nineteenth Century in American Music” at the North American Conference on Nineteenth-Century Music in Nashville, Tennessee, in June 2017.
Cristina Ciocirlan, associate professor of business and department chair, had a book chapter accepted for publication in the forthcoming “Research Handbook on Pro-Environmental Behaviour,” Edward Elgar Publishing, 2018.
Oya Dursun-Ozkanca, associate professor of political science and director of international studies minor, published a solo-authored article, “The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo: An Analysis from the Local Perspective” in the leading Ethnopolitics journal.
Kyle C. Kopko ’05, assistant dean for academic achievement and engagement, was awarded a Fulbright grant to participate in the 2017 International Education Administrators Seminar, which takes place in Germany and Belgium. In addition, Kopko was interviewed in the June 6 edition of LNP’s “The Caucus,” regarding the 2018 gubernatorial election and the state of national politics.
James MacKay, associate professor of chemistry, and Jeff Rood, associate professor of chemistry, participated in a National Science Foundation-sponsored workshop on microwave chemistry, hosted at St. Mary’s College of Maryland from June 8 through June 10, 2017.
MacKay was a facilitator and Rood was a participant in this hands-on workshop aimed at using microwave reactors in the teaching laboratory as a means of acceleration of reactions to transform chemistry curriculum. MacKay and Rood are currently in the process of developing new laboratory experiments to use in the College’s Chemistry Labs.
Jonathan Rudy, Peacemaker in Residence, at the Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking, designed and cofacilitated a new course at the Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute (MPI). The course, titled, “Human Centered Security: Reimagining Conflict Stakeholder Relationships,” was taught with Deng Giguiento and had 17 participants from six countries. This was his 16th consecutive year at MPI, held annually in Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines.
