Dr. E. Douglas Bomberger, professor of music, presented a paper at an international conference on Joseph Joachim held in Boston, June 16 through 18. His paper traced the history of American violinist Madge Wickham from her early studies with Joachim in Berlin in the 1880s through her experiences in Europe during World War I and her final years as a violinist in the WPA’s Federal Music Project during the Great Depression.
Dr. Mark Harman, professor of English and modern languages, published a review-essay on the eminent Irish-language writer Máirtín Ó Cadhain and two radically different translations of his novel, Cré na Cille, in the Los Angeles Review of Books. The essay draws on a paper Harman presented at the 2016 national meeting of the American Conference on Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Kyle C. Kopko ’05, assistant dean for academic achievement and engagement, co-authored an article for The Washington Post on the Libertarian Party’s presidential ticket.
Dr. Mark Stuckey, professor of physics; Timothy McDevitt, professor of mathematics and department chair; Michael Silberstein, professor of philosophy; and A.K. Sten ’17 co-authored “End of a Dark Age?,” which was accepted for publication in the International Journal of Modern Physics.
