Scholarship and Creative Arts Days (SCAD) is an annual event in which Elizabethtown College students have the opportunity to present research, participate in panels and demonstrate their creative talents. This year, the proposal period for SCAD opened Monday, Feb. 9.
Students who wish to present must submit a title and abstract for their research to a faculty mentor. The faculty mentor has the opportunity to approve the proposal and submit it on behalf of the student via the SCAD website. The deadline to submit proposals is Feb. 27.
Students also are encouraged to participate in the program cover contest. Each year, the photography or artwork of a student is picked to represent the SCAD program. Submissions for the cover contest also opened Feb. 9.
This is the eighth year for SCAD; however, this year the event is held across three days, in comparison to the usual two in years past. The 2015 keynote speaker, Donald Kraybill, distinguished college professor and senior fellow in the Sociology and Religious Studies departments, will present “The Riddle of Amish Culture” Monday, April 20. This is one of the last big events in which Kraybill will participate as a member of the faculty/staff at Elizabethtown College. He is retiring in June.
Presentations and poster sessions are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21. Following the presentations and poster sessions, the Fine and Performing Arts Department Showcase Recital will be held in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center. SCAD will conclude with the Occupational Therapy Symposium Wednesday, April 22.
The campus community and general public is invited to attend all SCAD events.
