Donna Talarico-Beerman, Marketing and Communications, completed Leadership Lancaster’s CORE program in May.

 

Dr. David C. Downing, Ralph W. Schlosser professor and department chair of English, has been invited to be a consulting reader on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien for the Publication of the Modern Language Association (PMLA). PMLA is the leading journal in the U.S. for studies in language and literature.

 

Dr. Tamara Gillis, department chair and professor of communications, was named a 2014 International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Fellow. The IABC Fellows designation is the highest honor the organization confers upon its members and is awarded to communication professionals for exceptional leadership and service to IABC. Five individuals will be presented their awards at the opening session of the 2014 IABC World Conference, held June 8-11 in Toronto, Canada.

 

Ann Marie Potter, MA, OTR/l, lecturer in the College’s occupational therapy department, participated in the development of the Young Survival Coalition Research Agenda as the chair of the Quality of Life Research Think Tank Group. The purpose of the agenda is to identify and prioritize research related to the unique young women diagnosed with breast cancer. The agenda was released May 27, 2014, and can be viewed here.

 

 

Dr. Kevin Shorner-Johnson, assistant professor of music education, is published in an upcoming book series, titled “Advances in Music Education Research,” by Informational Age Publishing. Shorner-Johnson’s research focused on how music teacher educators approach the design of lessons and curricula with their future teachers.

 

Collaborations & Groups or Department

Daniel R. Forster ’14 and Kathryn Olsen ’14, senior chemistry majors, presented oral presentations of their research at the 78th annual convention of the Intercollegiate Student Chemists (ISC). Forster, research student of Dr. Jeffrey Rood, addressed the inorganic chemistry division, and Olsen, student of Dr. James MacKay, addressed the organic chemistry division. Forster was awarded first place for his presentation. The ISC is the oldest, continuous meeting of its kind in the United States. This year’s meeting was hosted by the Chemistry Department at Albright College and was attended by chemistry students from 20 undergraduate institutions in New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. Also attending were Dr. Charles D. Schaeffer and Dr. Gary Hoffman.
