Dr. Ed Chung and Dr. Cristina Ciocirlan, Business, had their paper titled, “Embeddedness: An Exploratory Investigation of the Role of Ties in Social Venture Formation,” accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed journal Metamorphosis- A Journal of Management Research. The paper was co-authored with Paul Ngo, St. Norbert College.

 

Dr. Andy Dunlap’s article, “Supporting Youth in the Coming Out Process: Theory-Based Programming”, was published in Smith College Studies in Social Work. This article describes the purposes and implementation of various supportive programming for LGBT youth in the coming out process. Support groups, peer counseling programs, speakers’ panels and gay straight alliances are discussed.

 

Dr. Mark Harman’s translation of Kafka’s story A Message from the Emperor appears in the online edition of The Atlantic alongside commentary by novelist and Columbia University professor Ben Marcus, who calls Kafka’s story a perfect text. His translation was first published in The New York Review of Books. The translation has been set to music by Martin Bresnick of Yale University. Bresnick’s composition, using Harman’s words, will appear shortly on a CD.

Wendy K. Martin, Director of Science in Motion, presented a session, Science in Motion: Advancing Inquiry-based STEM Education, on Dec. 6, 2013. The session took place at the PA Science Teachers Convention in State College, Pennsylvania. Science in Motion provides scientific equipment, standards-aligned labs, and professional development for teachers on using the equipment and embedding inquiry-based activities into their curriculum.
